Sycamore Unit
For the first time, on Thursday, May 9th, the UBB was present in the Sycamore Unit and had the Hygiene Distribution. About 200 hygiene kits were distributed: shampoo/conditioner, two bars of soap, two toothpastes, and deodorant.
The inmates’ response was delightful. Many of them expressed gratitude to the UBB for this great hygiene distribution, were overwhelmed with joy, and even cried because they appreciated the kits they received. The guards were also surprised and shocked at what the inmates had received.
There was a moment when the inmates could participate in an open-call service, and the Bishop gave them a word of faith. He spoke about the first miracle our Lord Jesus did: turning water into wine.
Bishop Bira Joshua could use the word given and relate it to the lives of those present.
And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:3-5)
The Bishop spoke to the inmates and said it is essential for them to base their lives on the word of God and not worry about what people say. The mother of Jesus told the disciples: “Do as He says.” So we should not worry about other people’s opinions but focus on what Jesus says, obey His Words, and we will be blessed.
Right after the word of faith, Bishop Joshua prayed for all the mothers/women. He determined that this would be the last Mother’s Day incarcerated, which was a great motivation for the women present that day and boosted their faith that soon they would be reunited with their children and family.
The UBB is here to do as the Lord Jesus did. Jesus gave the best to those despised; we live by this statement: “We don’t judge; we help.” Being there for those with something to give in return is easy. But then, where is the love of Jesus in these acts? With joy, the UBB will ALWAYS be in the house to be close to those who need the love of our Lord Jesus Christ regardless of their past, background, or circumstances.
